Novak Djokovic’s Plea for Relaxed Quarantine Regulations Rejected by Australian Government

Serbian tennis sensation Novak Djokovic had sent a letter to the Australian Open officials, pleading to relax the strict quarantine restrictions. Prior to Novak’s letter, some other pros had also expressed their disappointment towards the hard and fast quarantine rules. However, despite the 17 times grand slam winner’s requests, the Australian government officials are reluctant to relax the restrictions.

Ben Andrews, the Premier of the State of Victoria, has reaffirmed that under no circumstance are the restrictions going to be loosened. He also said that players are free to make demands, but the authorities will not make compromises for anybody. All the 72 players who were told to go through quarantine will have to abide by the rules.

Emma Cassar, who is in charge of quarantine in Victoria, has said that she understands it is not easy to go through a 14-day quarantine period, but the community health will not be risked regardless of elite players requesting to lift some of the restrictions.
