Pickleball has experienced a huge increase in players wanting to learn the game which is why I’ve reviewed the Gamma Mirage Pickleball Paddle.
The game is simple enough. All you have to do is hit the ball with the paddle and you’re good to go. Experienced players who have played the game for thousands of hours and practiced hundreds of hours will be able to attest to how complex the game is. Picking the right pickleball paddle is the first decision for any new recruit.
Many players have asked me for my suggestions. My answer has varied slightly.
However, I want to be honest with everyone so I played a set of every paddle I had over the years. To avoid giving the same answer to everyone, I have made it clear that the winner is obvious.
The Gamma Mirage Composite Pickleball paddle is my first choice for anyone looking to get started with a balanced paddle. Read our detailed review of another great paddle, the Niupipo-MX-06.
The Gamma Mirage Composite Pickleball Paddle is an excellent choice of paddle.

The Gamma Mirage Composite Pickleball Paddle has the following key features:
Handle and Grip
I love the grip on this paddle. The handle size and grip shape are perfect for my hand (which is normal human size) and the paddle feels stable and secure. Although the paddle handle is slightly shorter than usual, so it doesn’t really allow for two-handed backhand shots.
The best thing about the paddle is the ‘popping’ sound it makes when you hit your shots in the sweet spot. It also has a premium feel. The grips measure in at 4 1/8 inches. The paddle will fit perfectly where your hand and handle are equal. This ensures that you don’t miss a shot because of poor grip fitting. Grips are more personal and will vary from one person to another. It is also very simple to re-grip.
Design and Construction
Pickleball players with experience will tell you that accuracy is more important than any other skill.
If the ball doesn’t go where you want, then you aren’t really mastering the sport. While a lot of this can be attributed to skill and practice, having a paddle that allows you to take advantage of your playing style is great.
There are two types of paddles. You can choose one with a stronger sweet spot, which is more difficult to hit accurately but makes for harder shots. Or, you can have a larger sweet spot, which distributes the impact evenly.
Gamma mirage paddles are special in that they have a larger head that allows for a greater sweet spot and power.
However, the Polymer core can take some of your finesse away because it is hard. The Gamma Mirage is a base that focuses on one thing: unadulterated raw power.
This makes every shot stronger and gives you more satisfaction, making it easier to fall in love with the game.
Gamma Mirage is a new generation of pickleball paddles with an elongated, more powerful head.
This makes it easier to hit certain shots on the court. The weight can make it harder to control your play though.
Pros and Cons
Each paddle is different. I promised an honest review, and I will be doing that by comparing the pros and cons.
Pros
- Even if you are a beginner, a large but powerful sweet spot will allow you to hit incredible power shots. The paddle never feels out of balance. This makes it much more enjoyable, as you make fewer mistakes.
- Pickleball players love the ‘pop’ sound of the paddle. You feel more confident, which helps you improve your game.
- Its grip and fit are probably its greatest advantages over paddles in the same price range.
- You can play anywhere on the court with the paddle
Cons
- A combination of the hardness and weight can compromise some finesse. For those new to the game, this shouldn’t be an issue. This is not the paddle for control players though.
- Because of the shortness and strength of the handle, you won’t see many powerful backhand shots that are double-handed.
Conclusion
Gamma Mirage Composite is priced in the middle of its peer group and is an excellent choice.
It feels solid and stable through every stroke. The sheer power it generates throughout its wide sweet spot is incredible. The weight and hardness of the paddle would make me nervous.
The Gamma Mirage, however, is a great paddle for beginners.
